The Siri Singh Sahib used to say that it's really an onion, not an apple, a day that will keep the doctor away. He used to talk about the trinity root (onion, garlic, ginger) for optimum health. Keep a healthy dose of these roots in your diet and you will be very healthy and as a man, very strong.
I am not challenging the qualities of Onion. All I was trying to do was create a little humor. I guess I am not very good at it.
Edible Onion (Scientific name Allium cepa) is a very commonly used plant in the Diet from where I come, i.e. India… We used it in almost everything. Similarly, I am also aware of the medicinal value of Garlic (Allium sativum) and Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale) and these are also integral part of my diet.
(I wrote Ginger as root, but not Onion or Garlic because, Garlic and Onion both belong to Family Alliaceae and are not roots but they grow in the soil. Onion bulb is comprised of concentric, enlarged fleshy leaf bases, also called scales and Garlic is similar to onion, except instead of producing a single large bulb, it produces a compound bulb consisting of groups of white or purplish scales.
Bhai Sarvjeet Singh Ji, I thought it was humorous, but it also reminded me of what the Siri Singh Sahib said. You're right, they're not really roots, but they are often thought of as roots because they grow below the ground. Thanks for the lesson :-)
