Hindu, Muslim groups tussle over national song....

India's opposition Hindu nationalists and Muslim groups are heading for a confrontation over a controversial move to get all Indians to sing the national song on the centenary of its adoption next month.

The row was sparked this month after the government asked all schools, including Islamic madrasas, to get students to sing the song, which is separate from the national anthem, on Sept. 7.

  • Thanks for posting Sarvjeet Ji! I wonder, why are Sikhs not opposing it? I sang all kinds of Godly songs in various schools. One comes to mind is "Tumhi ho mata, pitah tumi ho, tumi hi bandhu Sakha...". I am sure everyone is familiar with "Bharat Mata ki" "Jai" slogan as well along with "vande matram". Now I look back as an adult, I say, how can India claim separation of Church and State based on western democracatic ideas, but enforce kids to sing that song. It is the same issue in America about kids being askeed kids to say pledge of allegiance which has a phrase "One nation under God".

Who says Hinduism is peaceful. Looking at history of Buddhism, and how it was driven out of India and now how Sikhism, Jainsism and Buddhism are considered all part of Hinduism. I hope India knows what whe is doing by ruining identiy of Buddhists, Muslims and especially Sikhs in the name of Indian unity as a nation. I say, let India and Hindus kill us, ultimately they cutting their own hands that feed it and protect it. History tells me Hindus can't fight no matter how powerful bombs India has, or Air force or Navy. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had a great powerful Khalsa army that was willing to fight for any cause, guess what it wasn't the strength of army that Sikhs lost their sovernity. It was the material greed, poor leadership that started straying away from the Khalsa prinicipals and values such as Sati practices, Royal prestiges, material greed for gems, diamonds, multiple marriages for political alliances etc. There won't be long before a foreign invader comes to India again, may be then India will realize what damage it has done. Hindus leadership does not even have the ability to recognize the talents of Sikhs. It took a foreigner like Sonia Gandhi to see his potential. There is no way a Sikh could have been elected Prime Minister of India given the negative image Indian Hindu has created against Sikhs. It is time for both India and Sikhs to trust each other else we are all in it for the worst ride ahead.

Sorry for the long post. Got carried away there.

  • Typical fascist maneuvering by the GOI and the fanatic Hindus that hold power in India.
The article says that in BJP run states they will take action against those who don't sing the song. That's incredibly oppresive!

BTW Bhai Ji, did you go to the Sanjha Samagam and are you planning to go to the Samagam this weekend?

  • I think this appears to be based on 'mob psychology'.

Majorities, whether they be based upon religion, ethnicity, or nationality, etc., always tend to try to impose their will on minorities.

There are fanatics in almost every community/country/state/ethnic group, who then tend to whip up passions against those who do not agree with the philosophy/ideology they follow.

History has been witness to many such instances all over the world.
